As we make the shift from acceptable use to responsible use of technology in our schools, not only does the shift in language recognize the value of learning in online spaces, but it also emphasizes the responsibility given to students to behave ethically and productively, and develop a positive digital footprint.
Teachers are encouraged to collaborate with students to create a common understanding or responsibility of access, as well as explore conversations about the use of technology to support and further learning, while setting clear expectations regarding the use of technology in the classroom.

Students need an understanding of human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology, and practice legal and ethical behaviour. We need to help our students to learn how to ensure that the ‘digital footprint’ they leave behind serves to reinforce positive relationships and helps them to be aware of how they can make the world a better place.
