As we make the shift from acceptable use to responsible use of technology in our schools, not only does the shift in language recognize the value of learning in online spaces, but it also emphasizes the responsibility given to students to behave ethically and productively, and develop a positive digital footprint.
Teachers are encouraged to collaborate with students to create a common understanding or responsibility of access, as well as explore conversations about the use of technology to support and further learning, while setting clear expectations regarding the use of technology in the classroom.

1. Teachers and students must adhere to their own board administrative policies and procedures regarding the use of social media —Twitter— in the classroom.
2. Teachers and students must adhere to their own board administrative policies and procedures regarding the use of student images and/or videos online. It is the classroom teacher’s responsibility to ensure that the appropriate permissions are in place prior to participating in an @GlobalEdSsChat.
3. Students must be 13 years of age to tweet from their own Twitter account. Students under 13 years of age will tweet from a class Twitter account owned and managed by the classroom teacher. Information about setting up a class Twitter account can be found on Join Us!
4. Teachers are responsible for ensuring that staff and student personal information and privacy is protected at all times.
5. Content posted on Twitter by students should not contain any personally identifying information. Personal information may include, but is not limited to a name, date of birth, gender, student numbers, address, and email. Personal student work may also contain private information that could be misused.
6. Teachers are responsible for all content posted by their students.
7. Students under 13 may identify themselves in a tweet using their initials, first name, or an emoji. Remember, teachers and students must adhere to their own board administrative policies and procedures regarding the use of social media —Twitter— in the classroom.
