Following the scheduled Tweet and Talk (YouTube Live Event), the recording of the Tweet and Talk will be posted on our website, and on our YouTube Channel for classes to use as a provocation.

CHAT QUESTIONS:

Music and Mental Health

1. Why do you listen to music?

2. Why should teachers use music in class and/or allow students to listen to their own music?

3. How does music affect your mental health? Positively/ negatively?

4. What impact does creating music have on your mental health? Why?

5. What are you favourite songs/bands for different moods and/or activities? (For example, what songs/ bands motivate you #MotivationMusic, help you study #StudyMusic, help you sleep #SleepMusic, etc.)

*These same 5 questions will be used for the Slow Chat all month long. Where necessary, questions have been reworded for younger Tweeters. We recommend classes spend time answering the questions ahead of time so time during the chat can be spent liking tweets, retweeting, quoting tweets in reply, and collaborating with others.

Meet the Expert: Everett Adams

Everett Lawrence Adams II (E. L.), M.A., Ed.S is a Therapist from Charlotte, NC,
USA. I am the younger of two children from Everett Adams Sr. and Sandra
Adams. After high school graduation Mr. Adams went to Phillips Academy-
Andover, Preparatory School in Andover MA, USA. He then went on to St. Francis
Xavier University (St. FXU) in Antigonish, NS, Canada where he obtained a dual
B.A. degree in Psychology and Sociology. He also played basketball at St. FXU for
a 2 time national championship team. After graduation, Mr. Adams attended
graduate school at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN, USA
where he graduated with a dual Master’s Degree degree in Educational
Psychology and Counseling Psychology.

Music has been a big part of my life as it was a constant staple of entertainment
in my home. AS a teenager I developed my own musical tastes that were heavily
influenced from my family and friend circles as a teenager. As I matured, music
began to be more than a source of entertainment and began to be a form of
expression that spoke to my experience, emotions and thoughts. I then had my
own radio show while at St. FXU. While in graduate school I did my thesis on the
impacts of music and mental health which is the backbone of my program Mental
Health, Mood and Music (MHMM). I use MHMM in a psychoeducational manner
to help educate about mental health, decrease stigma, provide reflection and
develop coping tools or it can be used clinically to assist with treatment.
